Snoring Treatment in Dubai
From Nuisance to Diagnosis in One Night
Snoring affects 45% of adults — and for 1 in 4, it signals obstructive sleep apnea. Find out what's behind your snoring and get the right treatment with Noxify's at-home sleep testing.
What Causes Snoring?
Snoring occurs when airflow through the mouth and nose is partially obstructed during sleep, causing the surrounding tissues to vibrate.
During sleep, the muscles in your throat, tongue, and soft palate relax. If they relax too much, they narrow the airway. As air is forced through this narrowed passage, it causes the tissues to vibrate — producing the sound we recognise as snoring. The narrower the airway, the louder the snoring, and the more forceful the airflow becomes.
While snoring is often dismissed as a harmless nuisance, research shows that 1 in 4 habitual snorers actually has obstructive sleep apnea — a serious medical condition where the airway collapses completely, cutting off breathing for 10 seconds or more. In the UAE, where obesity rates exceed 30%, the prevalence of snoring-related sleep disorders is particularly high.
Excess Weight
Extra tissue around the throat and neck compresses the airway. A neck circumference above 40 cm significantly increases snoring risk.
Anatomy
A thick soft palate, enlarged tonsils, a deviated septum, or a recessed jaw can all narrow the airway and trigger snoring.
Age & Gender
Men are twice as likely to snore. After age 50, muscle tone decreases and snoring prevalence rises sharply in both sexes.
Sleep Position
Sleeping on your back causes the tongue and soft palate to fall backward, partially blocking the airway. Side sleeping may eliminate snoring entirely.
Alcohol & Sedatives
Alcohol relaxes throat muscles beyond their normal resting state. Drinking within 3 hours of bedtime significantly worsens snoring.
Nasal Congestion
Chronic allergies, sinus infections, or a deviated septum force mouth breathing during sleep, dramatically increasing snoring volume.
Simple Snoring vs Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Not all snoring is the same. Understanding whether your snoring is harmless or a sign of something serious is the critical first step. Read our full guide to sleep apnea in Dubai to learn more about the condition.
Simple Snoring
Vibration of airway tissues without significant airway collapse. Annoying but generally not medically dangerous.
Sleep Apnea Snoring
Complete or near-complete airway collapse causing breathing pauses. A serious medical condition requiring treatment.
When Snoring Becomes Dangerous
If your snoring is accompanied by any of these signs, a sleep study is strongly recommended to rule out obstructive sleep apnea.
Recognise any of these signs? Don't wait — a single night of testing can reveal the answer.
